  1. What is exactly being said underneath all those “×××”s? And what are the point of them anyways?

  2. Listen to the song and decide for yourself. I merely translate the original lyrics and I don’t want to replace ‘×××’ with ‘cks’.

  3. That’s what I figured ^^
(But I thought the xxx were supposed to be “ckers”)

  4. Hmm, maybe it’s “ckers”… ^^;; Yep, entirely up to the listener’s interpretations.

  5. this is one awesome song!

  6. I see an error in the original lyric :

“HEY HEY! Ningen sanka. Ai nige ningen fuan ka?”

One : it’s not sanka but sucker.
Two : it’s not fuan ka but fucker.

I hope those mistake will be corrected.
(If my english is bad, it’s because I’m french ^^)

    • @Kyaten your english is better than most Americans i know and i do not think it is sucker it sounds like it is saiga to me. And i dont know about fuan cuz i only hear Ai nige ningen

  7. …What? Take a look at the original lyrics. It is “HEY HEY! Ningen sanka. Ai nige ningen fuan ka?”, but I think the artist purposefully made it sound like something else.

  8. Are those “original lyrics” official?

  9. I’m sorry, but picture proof or official website. I just need a real confirmation – some random person on the Internet is NOT what I consider reliable (no offense) – before I will accept. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t make the song sound like those lyrics.

No hard feelings, I just need confirmation. 🙂

  10. HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT SONG IS THE SHZ

  11. these guys are totally constipated…
    someone give them Ex-Lax

  12. This song is terrible, but in an amusing way. I like some of their other songs, though.

  13. wow, erm, everyone is suckers and fu*****?
that’s pretty, erm, strong. but that’s because of japan has decensitized words or are children in japan just getting to hear a theme song with the word fu** in it a million times? btw, deathnote is the shit… 🙂

    • Death Note is not an anime series that should be watched by children. It is definitely for mature audiences. It has all sorts of subjects and situations that make it… not for kids. Japan … loosing sensibility? Don’t tell me you live in the USA… because, from where I stand, USA has no such thing… the whole world is loosing sensibility… the fact that this (rather long song for the lack of words in their lyrics) reminded you about it… it is proof that you live in some cloud up there… lucky you….

    • You know, what`s strong on that? Here in Germany “Fuck You” is not even an offense anymore. Maybe something like “You son of a bitch” or more likely here it’w (wordly translatet) “You son of a whore”. Asshole or something like that is said between friends…
Oh yeah, and here the Tits in TV are not censored like in the USA xD
I don’t know what’s wrong with us or the USA, in the USA tits or “bad language” is prohibited, here in Germany the “extreme violence” in the most american film productions is banned. Or videogames from the USA are censored in most cases. that definetly sucks ass.

  14. this song is very cool

  15. Hmm.. didn’t really enjoy the movie though.. i got a bootleg version.. the translation was very very bad..

@@”.. served me right for getting a bootleg version 😛

  16. @mulrich:

If you don’t believe her, then you should leave. It’s like it or leave it.

  17. See, that’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Atashi, it is much appreciated! (heh, seems like I’m thanking my female self :p)

    @chaosakita:
There is nothing wrong with asking for proof. Lots of people, myself included, only heard “SUCKER” and “FUCKER”, not “sanka” and “fuan ka”.

    • True. A fansubbed version translated it as “sucker” and “fucker”. I believe that the intention is to say just that. Must be some way the romaji(sp?) is perverting itself now… lol

    • if you heard “sucker” and “fucker”, maybe you have some social issues.
      i know i do 😉

but then again, it could just be because you don’t know the language.
i have a friend who fervently believes that everytime she hears a German person talking with great zeal, they’re swearing at her!
a trick of the uneducated ears, lol

  18. You missed out the part before the “convenience” verse. There he’s saying “we’ve always been this to free all this pain”.

then he yells “ten four” twice

Also, he’s saying banzai which is an exclamation of excitement, not you, which means “yeah” is more correct. (or you could put “woohoo” in front instead). He’s also saying “ningen” meaning human, not people in the convenience verse. Any ear could hear that. (and read for that matter)

In the next verse he’s not asking if he’ll shockingly angry me. He saying “hora biribiri okarasu ka? biribiri okarasu ka?” meaning “see, isn’t it starting to hurt you? hurt you?”. and once again, it’s “Human” not “People” here. This song is beeing sung to a person, not about a group of persons.
Next its “What’s up with all these worries/insecurities” (it is irrelevant if you use worries/insecurities) and on the second the one within the ( ) is correct.

and so forth. Although it’s a very good job translating anyway, if you’re still studying that is.

  19. i meant exclamation of excitement not JOY, not YOU >.

  20. @ mad:
The part before ‘convenience’ isn’t in the official lyrics, so I didn’t include it.

I originally did have ‘human’ instead of ‘people’… Then I changed it in favor of keeping with the word in “What’s up, people?!”. If you really believe it should be human, I can change it.

‘Biribiri’ means like, ‘in pieces’, ‘rattlingly’, or ‘shock’, as in an electric one. ‘Ikarasu’ means ‘to anger’, not ‘to hurt’. I’ll keep it the way it is for now until further consultation.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say about the “worries/insecurities”… I’m sorry, but can you please reword your statement?

  21. worry and insecurity have the same meanings is what i meant.
if “shock” as in an electric one, your translation “Hey, will you shockingly anger me?” doesn’t make any sense at all.

  22. A piece of advice, take a look at Animanda’s translation. I know that if you run the text through a translator, what you have is what comes out. But Animanda’s just sounds better and basically means exactly the same.

Keep in mind that the short version only consists of the following:

    thats wot i thought too

  24. You’re too late, jase. We already confirmed that it’s “sanka” and “fuan ka?”. It was confirmed the moment Atashi posted that scan of the official lyrics. And what I posted in my comment on March 31st is the short version, the OP version for DEATH NOTE.

  25. And these kind of “forum” really lacks a quote option, I didn’t notice jase quoted someone else. -_-” Sorry, jase.

  26. Thanks for translating these lyrics.

  27. HEY HEY SU***, su, no sa ..

  28. HEY HEY!人間SUCKER!! 鳴呼 人間・・人間FUCKER!
sucker oh yeah, fucker oh yeah,
    sanka rofl !

  29. uh it is fucker and sucker but.. i thought you just didnt want to swear…. atleast its that in the Death Note Opening…

  30. @shell: look at the pictures in either Atashi’s post a little up or in people’s post just two posts above yours. You’ll see it’s actually censored in the booklet. Also, take a look at my post from March 31st, which has the Death Note OP version lyrics.

  31. it’s written sanka 傘下 賛歌 but sounds like sucker.不安=fuan 感=kan ==>feeling of anxiety If you can’t read japaneses stop telling bullshits ! sucker and fucker appears at the end on thie song.
it’s a good translation.I also agree with his translation of びりびり怒らすか。

  32. Wow, this is the 1st time I’ve heard a Japanese song have the “F” word in it. xD

Thanks, though. I really like listening to this song. :3

  33. Fuuma, you need to lurk more. Plenty of Japanese (modern) (rap) songs have words such as “fuck” and “shit” in them…

  34. Fuuma, Siam Shade japanese group for example have a song with that “F” word. The name of the song is “Get a life”, I recommend it.

  35. Hey man, thanks for the lyrics and translation. 🙂

  36. clawedshrimp

is it possible for a download of the full song? i like this song and would like the full thing, if not that’s ok.

also, Death Note is damn good

  37. clawedshrimp

also i really think it’s fucker and sucker, even though the band put fuan ka and sanka in the booklet, maybe that was just a thing. cause it really really sounds more like the former than the latter

  38. I quite LOVE this song…for some reason the more I listen to it the more i’m addicted. The rest of the album rocks too!!

  39. hatake_kakshi

The song sound completely different from the lyrics like when he say this:
    “WHAT’S UP fuanzai ippai”
    it sound like this:
    “WHAT’S UP, PEOPLE”

  40. hatake_kakshi, try slowing the song down with a tool like Audacity. You will hear it clearly.

“WHAT’S UP, PEOPLE” is only sung four times at the very end of the song. No sooner than that.

  41. Pingback: Death Note Opening Theme 2 - What's up, people! [Maximum The Hormone] « Anime theme , tunes watch

  42. wtf to the who said death note is crap fuck you! hope you’ll die soon who cares what’s up people is still cool you don’t have the right to bad mouth dn asshole!!!!

  43. thanks for the lyrics.
at first, i couldnt make myself listen to such a noisy opening theme cos i never heard a noisier opening theme before… but then as i watched more episodes, the song became catchier!!! =D

  44. Geez people, if you didn’t know already, the lyrics “fuan ka” and “sanka” are the right ones, and FUxxx and SUxxx only appear at the end. No, it’s not really censorship, but I think it’s more like puns.

  45. A ningen!

  46. ‘if “shock” as in an electric one, your translation “Hey, will you shockingly anger me?” doesn’t make any sense at all.’

Actually, shock in this case is probably to be taken figuratively. What do you think?

  47. Damn, did you actually want to translate this? :\
One thing that bugs me: when I read through these comments, it felt like very few people seem to realize that you are translating this music for free… You need to stand up for yourself sometimes, ok?
    lol
Nice translations, I really appreciate the work you put into this.

  48. Atashi, would you mind if I use this for gendou.com? I know you used it before, but some random n00b changed it and made it wrong.

  49. I’ve heard that the “actual” but not litteral translation for the line “are you ganna shockingly anger me” SHOULD be “Are you gonna p**s me off” not confirmed though but i have seen it written a few times

  50. Amazing job again, Atashi. This song makes Zetsubou Billy look rather tame XD

Keep up the good work!! ^_^~~

  51. what the hell are you guys talking about?!
it doesnt matter if its fuan ka or fucker and if its sanka or sucker. what important is ITS GREAT.
    Goodness Gracious.

  52. this song is very……….very……….very……………cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love this song!!!!!!!!!

  53. awesome! I got the first song from death note from this site, and now this one. this band, at parts in this song, remind me a lot of static x. and those parts also sound like they’re sayin “Can anybody kill us?! Can anybody kill us?!”

    it’s these lines right here:

Hora biribiri ikarasu ka? Biribiri ikarasu ka? Biribiri ikarasu ka? Ningen
Hora biribiri ikarasu ka? Biribiri ikarasu ka? Biribiri ikarasu ka? Ningen

    • that’s funny to me, because in the Zetsubou Billy video, the band that is performing is killed by Kira and replaced by another one singing the same song! lol

  54. Cool. My sister proper loves deth note to bits, and she loves the band Maximum the hormone, and i had no idea they did the opening for deathnote!

    I ❤ L

  55. thanks so much for the translation and clarification.

I knew [as] couldn’t have just pulled that translation out of their asses.

And I heard something about it before, too.

I feel smart knowing this now. Thanks again =]

ps – I hate screaming music, but I love both theme songs ❤

  56. I pretty sure that in the part of
HEY HEY! Ningen sanka. Ai nige ningen fuan ka?……….its fuckker and sucker…. great blog nd i hope the correction i right… ^_^

  57. whats the language of the second version??

  58. The song gets catchier every time I hear it!! ^^
    THanks for the great translation!

  59. Well i listened to this song(downloaded and converted a vid from youtube) to my ipod.. the song rocks!

  60. this song is plain awesome….n i watched the music video n the they do say fuckers n suckers……kinda reminds me of ryuk….the song suits death note ALOT!!!

  61. Well, u know, death note is the best anime. Coz it have a high psycological (don’t know the right word) war in it, and it can make our think flexibel..

Sorry if my english bad, i’m indonesian. 😀

  62. Just forget what i said before…

  63. I’m wondering what “kuso” means most likely in English. My dictionary says “feces, excrement” and another online dictionary says “shit”. Even though they mean the same thing, feces and excrement for more proper terms and aren’t considered bad or rude at all. So would “kuso” be something bad to say in Japanese, like “shit” in English?

    • yes, kuso is literally “shit”, but is generally used as an expression of anger, translated like “this is bullshit!” or “shit, man!” or occasionally “fuck!” or “dammit!” or even used like in “damn kid!” (kuso kodomo).

  64. o_o what’s weird is before I read all this comments…. I thought it sounded more like sanka was sucker (like some thought…) but instead of fucker Faun ka sounds alot like “faggot” xD Don’t get angry at me… im not arguing that it was… I just think it SOUNDS that way!

  65. nc sOOOOOOOOOONG!!!
    ROCK and ROLL!!! fu**** aLL!!!

  66. This might not be perfectly correct, however I think there MIGHT be an error with one of the lyrics.
    When he says
Hora biribiri ikarasu ka? Biribiri ikarasu ka? Biribiri ikarasu ka? Ningen

    You translate it as
Hey, will you shockingly anger me? Will you shockingly anger me? Will you shockingly anger me? Humans

However, in the show these lyrics were translated to english as:
Hey, wanna get them mad, get them mad, get them mad, people?

I could be mistaken for these particular lyrics, but I thought I’d just throw that in there.

  67. Another possible error, but again from the show lyrics.
    The lyrics here
HEY HEY! Ningen sanka. Ai nige ningen fuan ka?
    are translated as
HEY HEY! Human paean. Do humans worry when love escapes?
However, the show translate it as
HEY HEY! A hymn to humanity, Love has gone, people are you worried?
Again, I could be wrong because of the show and how asian languages can be distorted when translated to english, but thought it was a worthwhile mention.

  68. The final word on the whole sanka and fuan ka/kan bit.

The lyrics as written are deliberately gibberish, but are designed to sound like the swear words.

So while a literal translation gives “human peon”, the word was chosen for it’s sound, not it’s meaning. And there is no english word that I know of that rhymes with f*cker and starts with an F.

Therefore, the fansubs had it RIGHT. The official subs on the dub have it wrong. Oddly enough the official subs on the subbed version also have it right. They DO say s**ker and f**ker. (watch on hulu)

It’s like If You Seek Amy. The misheard lyric is the intended one.

    • very good!

    • i hate when people who don’t know anything post nonsense…

      check it here:
      http://www.eudict.com/?word=fuan&lang=

and ka is the symbol they use at the end of sentences to make them questions.

and “sanka” is not “peon” but “paean” which means “hymn”.

and as far as hulu goes, any jackass with video editing software can add those. i have the original American release DVDs, and they say “hymn” and “worried” (anxious).

but it doesn’t MATTER what they wrote, because the band’s liner notes say “sanka” and “fuan ka”!

the album came out AFTER the show (even in Japan), so there was no way to lnow what they said unless you were them, and it DOES sound like fucker, most especially when you know that the LAST time they run that verse in the song it IS listed as being FUCKER (well, “FUxxx”, but in Japan, a series of x’s represent what we would do with asterisks (*), so essentially like they said a “swear word”.

as to the ethics behind swearing in a “kids’ show”, it was aimed at teens, and what teen has NOT said that word at least once, or watch a movie that said it? and since it’s translated differently on the TV show (my DVD actually says “Subservient people” instead of “human sucker”!), teens won’t know any different.
and those of you who HEAR “fucker” where there is none, doesn’t that just tell you something about yourself!
yeah, i heard it, too, so what?
anyways, it was likely a play on Japanese words, since they sound alike.
and anyways, people in Japan don’t flinch at words like FUCKER, just like we here wouldn’t think twice upon hearing “kuso” [unless you’re a fan of Anime, of course 😉 ].

  69. Well done,atashi

    To Greenf;ame — December 3, 2009

“asian languages can be distorted when translated to english”

    you were right.

  70. Hey. I’m doing an english cover of this. Are these the lyrics i should use.? yeah?
