Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Opening Theme – Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

When Cicadas Cry
Vocals: Shimamiya Eiko

Behind where I looked back; (Who’s in the front?)
In the dark, I sank in my nails (and tore apart the night)

The raindrops turn into droplets of blood and travel down my cheeks
If there’s no place for me to return to anywhere anymore

Take these fingers, my fingers
I’ll take you away with all of your fingers
To the unopened forest where cicadas cry
I can’t turn back anymore

Being extinguished one by one; (the blue flames)
Beyond the darkness, (the morning won’t come anymore)

Inside the mirror, with countless wriggling hands reaching out
Come on, lure someone here

Oni-san, come here, to where my hands clap
No matter how you flee, I’ll capture you
From the animal trail where cicadas cry
The voice that I heard is no more

Take these fingers, my fingers
I’ll take you away with all of your fingers
To the unopened forest where cicadas cry
I can’t turn back anymore

Oni-san, come here, to where my hands clap
No matter how you flee, I’ll capture you
From the animal trail where cicadas cry
The voice that I heard is no more

  7. I’m simpy addicted to the song. Once watching the anime ‘Higurashi no Naku Koro ni”s opening song, I just couldn’t get it out of my head. Thanks a ton for the lyrics!

  8. I love this song soo much. But there’s something that’s been bothering me. In the very beginning of this song, the singer is like…chanting something. It happens in the middle of the full version too. I wonder what she’s saying?

  9. The chanting is a form of subliminal message known as backmasking. When the song is played in reverse, the nonsensical chanting sounds like “I love you” and “You can’t escape” in Japanese.

    • o.o I thought it was “Hona Hona Ai”… Ill check into it.

    • Is there a version in which I can hear the song in reverse AND with the lyrics of what she’s saying? Because I really can’t hear it :c (when played reverse… okay, Im not japanese, but I’m able to recognize those simple sentences :D)

  10. Thank You. Arigato Gozaimasu!!!

  11. Tanks!

Second, it ended up expiring on me. 😦
I played it when I first received it then went on itunes to buy new songs (I can’t find this song on itunes btw).

Later I came back to check on this song and it says it can’t play and wants me to locate the ifle. Except I can’t locate it? Not even in my Recent Documents folder.

If you could help that would be great =)!

The visuals for it on the show is weird, but seems to fit it really well. I’m now addicted, and I waited 2 whole hours for it to download (I have dial-up)but it was so worth it. Thnx!!!

The “Oni san kochira te no naru hou e” part at least, is the opening of a nursery rhyme in Japanese. It’s old, used as a little ditty when children are learning to walk. The fun is, you call your little toddler “mr oni”, and play a little game of tag, with you as the target… they walk to you, etc. I don’t know it all well enough to know where the rhyme leaves off and the song begins however.

  46. This song is absolutely amazing. And i like Shimamiya Eiko’s voice a lot. Thank you for the lyrics a lot. Arigato =)

  47. That’s my one of my favourite anime openings ever…thanks!!!

  48. what is this song about anyway? ive interpreted it in a billion ways but id like to know the correct one. thnkyu so much for the lyrics as well=3

  49. Stephen Daedalus

No problem. It’s roughly translated as “Come here Mr. Oni, to the sound of the hands…” It goes on to talk about “walking is good, falling is bad.” but I doubt that part of the rhyme is ever used in a song. I hope that helps! By the way, a more liberal english translation could be “Come here Mr. Monster, follow the clapping of my hands”. Either way, but the former is the literal one.

  50. Thanks so much! I love this song! =)

  51. I learned recently that “Kono yubi tomare” is also an invitation to play. I’m not sure, but I thought of it as “take my hand and play with me”.

It is sorta creepy though, talking about… fingers.

  52. I feel like a wimp being addicted to the song but too scared to watch the anime. I’m not a fan of blood or horror, but ther’s something telling me to watch it! It probably won’t go away until I finally watch it.

  53. thnx!.. loved this

  55. Than you very much!! Could you please translate some other Higurashi Songs, like Sora No Qualia or Higurashi Hymn from Kakera Musubi? Arigatou!

  56. For ones interested in the chant:

It is a Japanese phrase played backwards, but since I don’t know Japanese, I can hear a good approximate for it. Count this as a romanisation of (probably) nonexistent words:

    Hanne hara harei

Now listen to the song closely again, reading this, and you’ll be able to chant along.

  57. Niiii !!!!!!!!!! I love this song and anime I would stay up all night watching ittttt Its the best! I love twisted things ;3

  58. omfg,I Loooveee this song! XDDD its like fudgen Awesome :O I luv Everything about Higurashi no Naku Koroni!!!! Its a Fantastic Anime Series!!!

  64. Hi, I have a question. Where can I download or buy these Higurashi no Naku songs?

*higurashi no naku “Naraku no Hana”
    *higurashi no naku “FLOW”
    *Higurashi no Naku “Koro ni”

Is there a site that has these for download or an online store that sells the CD which contains these songs? What CD has these songs in it anyway? Please let me know, thanks.

  65. ZatsuneAngelCry

Nice Nice Nice xD>:D<I like it so much:X

  66. Thx for the lyric.
By the way,how can you know the chant was a reversed phrase? Do you reverse it with some app or something?

    nee nani desu “oni-san” ???
    ^_^;~? heheh..

  71. The chanting at the beginning means “There is no escape” when turned backwards.

  72. So very beautiful, I love it.
    Thanks for the lyrics ^_^

  73. On the first line, in the chanting part she says ‘Shini te de’ which means with the hand of death.
