Random Scaffolding from Woot

Bought during the annual Christmas random bag sale, as mentioned earlier in the Christmas post. For $3 plus $5 (shipping) for a grand total of $8, I got:

1 X Refurbished 30GB 5th generation iPod classic (with earbuds, USB cord, no manual)
1 X oliso TG-800 steam iron (with a huge hole cut from one side of the box)
1 X HomeCookin toaster
1 X Belkin zipper case for XM Xpress (but holds the aforementioned iPod perfectly)
2 X Sanford PhD mechanical pencils
10 X packets of 4-per-packet Medisana self-adhesive simulator pads (must be used with a Medisana electric back pain reliever device)

My mother insisted that I gift her the iron. I gave one of the pencils to my brother. We’re still fighting over who gets to keep the zipper case. No one in my family uses a toaster, so I don’t know what to do with it for now. The pads are definitely useless, too, without the machine.

The iPod is the best thing coming out of the box. Finally, no more printing out last-minute lyrics sheets for conventions. I can read the lyrics as I practice songs. ;_; Thank you, Woot.

Merry Christmas 2009

Yes, it’s the Shanghai Doll that I’d wanted for a long time.

Merry Christmas, everyone. My Christmas gift is whatever the heck Woot decides to send me about a week from now.

Happy Halloween 2009

First time attempt at carving a pumpkin.

I almost carved a yukkuri head before settling on something more amusing. Click on either half for bigger photo.

Toehoe Cosplay for JoAnn Prom Contest

JoAnn sent me a $10 gift card for some ‘consolation’ prize and it made me remember that I entered a Touhou Remilia cosplay costume into its Prom 2009 contest months ago just for the heck of it. I figured that the judges would at least get a laugh out of seeing a bonnet in fashion before disqualifying the entry and throwing it in the recycle bin.

I went to check JoAnn’s page on the contest… o.O

…At least I got a $10 gift card out of the whole thing. I’m not cosplaying for the rest of this year though, so the gift card is going to my mom.

Cracking the SAT Subject Test in Japanese with Listening

Reposted from {Lighty Lively}, November 2006.
To all you November 2010 test-takers, I don’t know if the rules and equipment have changed in the last 6 years (I took the test in 2004), so it’s possible that the following rambling doesn’t apply anymore.

It’s September… The days are getting colder in the northern hemisphere…and November is the only time of the year when CollegeBoard offers the SAT Subject Test: Japanese with Listening. I took the test two years ago with limited success (740 out of 800).

So onto cracking the test (is this expression copyrighted by The Princeton Review?).

A Remilia costume progress photo

Is anyone else going to Sakura-con 2009, in Seattle, Washington, from April 10th through 12th? If so, would anyone be interested in a quick meetup there?

Dining in True Weeaboo Fashion, Pt. III – Valentine’s Day Special

Possibly the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever made this year so far: A Rolo cake in commemoration of Valentine’s Day, dedicated to Lelouch.

Stuff From 2004

This is ridiculous.

I logged into my ancient Geocities account after guessing through my security question by sheer luck (Who was your childhood hero?) and found that I did leave a few things behind in my account, dated from 2004.

The old site I ran was called “Hitorijime Anime Lyrics”, the vestiges of which can be found on a handful of lyrics submission sites.

Here are some of the things that I found: (God, my art sucked)

Going to China

I’m going to China on this coming Sunday, December 21st. The last time I visited the country was two months before I started this website, so it has been over two years. China develops so quickly that I have a hard time keeping up with the latest places to visit. I heard that it’s got awesome WalMarts now.

Anyhow, does anyone know what places to visit in Shanghai, China? Are there any anime/manga/cosplay/lolita-related stores there? Or perhaps conventions that I can check out in the coming three weeks? Or what to buy in China?

Black Friday – Does Anyone Want a 10.2MP Camera?

Long story short, does anyone want to buy that Samsung BL103 10.2MP digital camera off of me for $85, including shipping?

I finally partook in the glorious American tradition of Black Friday today by going out to a local Wal-Mart to purchase a cheap digital camera. I got to the store around 5:10am and spent about ten minutes looking for parking. The store was packed and I donned my Ayu winged backpack and went through the electronics section looking for the advertised 10.2MP camera, but no luck. Then I heard someone saying that it’s in the jewelry section, so I bolted there in time to see a poor sales associate dragging out a cart full of them. A line had formed for the camera, but in a few minutes everyone just started rushing forward, so I followed suit and grabbed three. Thank Haruhi I’m tiny. Anyways, I somehow managed to end up with two Samsung BL103 10.2MP digital cameras and I don’t need both. If anyone’s interested in taking one off of me for $85, including shipping and PayPal fees, please send me an e-mail at digitalsekai(at)gmail(dot)com.

Obama Star (What ’bout my star @Obama)

Macross Frontier Sheryl Nome/Ranka Lee for “Obama Star (What ’bout my star @Obama)”.
Nico Nico Douga link

I meant to put this up sooner, with Election Day now just a week away. What even made me sing this crack, I do not know.
Inspired by Jason’s original post here.

Lyrics are as follows:

Obama star × 7

Baby   dou shitai?   Told you
Hand it out   gyutto register   mou   standby
(Do you) want my heart & want my love?
NO!?   More!   Swing states KISS!
