Merchandise Tidbits – November 11th, 2008

Edit: If there’s a magazine that you’d like me to follow and report relevant information on (on top of Animage, Animedia, and Newtype), please leave a comment with the magazine’s name.

Animage, Animedia, Newtype December 2008 Issue
- As you may or may not already know, the big three anime magazines come out on the 10th of each month. For this month (the December 2008 issue), Animage and Animedia feature Kuroshitsuji while Newtype features Gundam 00 on the cover. All three are still clinging onto the fanbase power of the now-over Code Geass R2 by offering extra goodies related to that show. They also all come with Christmas-related extras.
- Two key factors influence whether I purchase a magazine or not: cover art and extras. The cover art has to feature a series that I love and the extra goods must be something that I would normally buy. That said, I think I will pick up the December 2008 issue of Animedia, since it comes with a fall 2008 anime song booklet, which should contain lyrics.

Blurbs
- From the recent inaugural Ita-G Festa, this photo from the Macross Frontier booth caught my eye… I wonder if the costumes that the ladies in the photo are wearing were from ACOS. Dang, that Ranka outfit added 50lbs on the poor girl.

Recent GETs
- Mary Magdalene St. Claire headdress
- Victorian Maiden Chiffon Underdress

  1. So who do you buy from for your magazines? I got my subscription to Newtype Japan, but I’m wondering if the other two are just as good.

  2. @ SirRob:
HLJ is okayish for the job since it’s about $7 to $10 for 2-week shipping (or $16 to $24 for two days), but if I want to mail in the service postcard or something I’d ask a friend in Japan to buy it and submit the postcard for me.

  3. Hmmm. Ok. It just so happens I do have a friend XD.

  4. Though I doubt it, you wouldn’t happen to read Megami would you? XD

  5. @ SirRob:
I do take a look at the spreads in Megami monthly but I’ve only bought one Megami Deluxe in my life (and I’m trying to get rid of it ~_~).
Usually the spreads are cute eye candy for about five seconds apiece and good for cosplay reference, but until they start doing Megami for Ladies or something like that, I won’t purchase any.

  6. Kinda like Playgirl? Bunch of bishounen…or would it be more manly types?
