Code Geass R2 Episode 25

September 28, 2008 at 4:39 am | In Anime Review, CODE GEASS Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 | 30 Comments

People, there’s no debate. Lelouch is 100% DEAD. It has been confirmed over and over again in magazines and the R2 Complete Guidebook.

Quick thoughts off the top of my mind:

-I wonder if it’s like the Marianne deal, if C.C. can talk to people she contracted with and consequently died.

-Is Lelouch floating around C’s World, too, now?

-Totally called it when I saw Lelouch make Schneizel obey “Zero” instead of “me/Lelouch”. It was really obvious that Lelouch will not be Zero anymore.

-God, what ever happened to revealing C.C.’s real name. And her wish to die.

-I bet $50 that someone will pull off a cosplay of Nunnally’s new red-and-black number in a week.

My take is that Lelouch is 100% dead, with a remote possibility of swimming around C’s World but no more than that. I don’t believe he achieved immortality since his long death scene was fitting for someone never to return again. He did not get Charle’s Code. If he did, wouldn’t have been able to use the Geass anymore. Taniguchi is finished with the series anyways and that’s the way he wrote it. If Lelouch is to be alive, then a season 3 or future spin-off would be imminent, which obviously aren’t. C.C. was talking to herself at the end of the episode, not to the cart driver, etc.

I cannot foresee a Code Geass R3 coming out anytime soon, but by the decision of keeping C.C. alive, I will take a gamble and say that it is a possibility they will do a new Code Geass series a few years from now. It’ll probably be set in approximately 50 years into the future from the R2 timeline, about the world falling into strife again and C.C. contracting with another person who takes up the mask of Zero. Suzaku can’t keep spin kicking into his 70’s.

I have put up the lyrics to the insert song at the end of episode 25, Continued Story, here.

  1. Yeah that guy driving the cart was definitely Lelouch. My guess is he’s become a contractor like C.C and when the Suzaku zero stabbed him he didn’t die. That also explains why C.C isn’t all emo anymore and doesn’t want to die – because she can now live happily ever after with Lelouch. There are still many questions left unanswered though, like whats C.C’s real name? How did everyone survive the first Fleya? Is Nunally the only one resistant to Geass? What ever happened to that girl at Ashford who was instructed to make a mark on the wall for every day the Geass lasted? Etc. Etc.

  2. Someone suggested that in becoming a contractor, Lelouch became R.R. (aka R2 in Code Geass R2).

  3. I don’t think I’ve cried more than this for an anime. Not because it was sad…but because it’s over. Very rarely have I seen such a beautifully written and witty show. WHY DO THE VIILIANS ALWAYS DIE! Kira, Lelouch. I don’t have any more characters to watch who are as smart. Or any anime coming to fill the giant void of Code Geass. Hopefully they make an anime out of the Nunnally manga or the one where Lelouch’s geass is an armor to fight Knightmares….OR (for the niche fans XD) the manga where Lelouch is in the sengoku era and his Geass calls forth a Knightmare. Either way MORE LELOUCH!

  4. Does anyone have the lyrics of the last insert song, “continued story”?

  5. @ Leah:
I will be posting the lyrics (translation + romaji) for “Continued Story” soon.

  6. hi

  7. Yes, I think he is dead too.. cries..Code thing is too much assuming things they never told us..

    Thank you for translating lyrics!

  8. This has to be one of the best endings ever. Sad, yes, but it fits. It really made me cry, haha.

  9. I think the ending is kind of up to how each person wants to interpret it. While I really enjoyed Lelouch, I would like to see the ending as him being dead. It’s kind of like proper punishment/atonement for all the wrong things he did to achieve a better world. The end doesn’t justify the means, eh? :P Anyway, I just think the ending would be a lot better if he was dead. I’m sure some people want him to be alive, and that’s possible, too. It’s all up to how you want to see it, really. And I like it the way I see it. :)

But, really, what is CC’s real name?! They better release it in an artbook or something…

    • I would think imortality would be the ultimate punishment. I mean an average person would suffer enough tragidys in one life time. Now consider several. Why would CC want to die?

I do have to agree, though, I believe a dead Leleoch wraps up the series very nicely. But it’s also nice to think that he is still alive. (Excuse me if you find any spelling erros, I’m a very tired person.)

  10. Well CC first and Last name begin with C. Because Lelouch is dead. LL is here now.

Code Geass R2 > RR > (in english) LL = Lelouch Lamperouge.

’sides didn’t you see CC forhead…her mark is gone. Reason she didn’t die though is cause she didn’t break the contract. If you study your jap literature and irish mythology you would gain a large understanding of this show and how much win it it.

  11. I want to know if there is a manga for Code Geass…and if there is, does any of you know where I can find it?

  12. @ SirRob:
Why not just argue the same thing for Rolo. Rolo = Roro = R.R.

    @ Supaboy:
There are four different manga series for Code Geass, of which the best one is Nightmare of Nunnally. The manga series “Lelouch of the Rebellion”, “Suzaku of the Counterattack”, and “Nightmare of Nunnally” are slated for English release from now to through 2009, so go check them out on Amazon.com and order them from your favorite bookstore. :3 I’m personally getting the translated Code Geass novels.

  13. I don’t think Lelouch had the mark on his forehead either. So it wouldnt have been C.C’s code… Besides, there may be a chance he just sprouted one…. I mean, the nature of the code particularly its genesis hasnt been properly explained. Remember the screenshot with the numerous contractor children? whatever happened to their codes? IF there is a way to dissipate the code then there must also be a way to generate them aside from passing it on of course…

    • Charles had the mark on his hand, remember. I don’t think it had to be on his forhead.

  14. For Rolo….NAH! It has to be Lelouch because Rolo died of a heart attack. You don’t come back from those. Only from a situation where there is 0% chance of you living does someone come back from. The more impossible the person living through it is, the more likely they are alive. It’s inverse relations XD

  15. Hopefully the driver was Lelouch. I don’t want him to die. So, God’s name! The ending really made me cried, for about twice!! I hate the ending, but -didn’t care how much i deny it- it was also fabulously cool! Dang! However, there is still something running on my head. Do you remember waht Suzaku said when he stabbed Lelouch? “I accept that ‘Geass’.” It mad me really nervous. Because it could makes my dream really broke!! If Lelouch doesn’t have his Geass anymore, it could be possible if he died. So… can someone explicit it to me ?? I’m really confused.

  16. i still insist that lelouch may still be alive..
coz he got charles’ code but still not activated after episode 21..
one thing we must learn is that the receiver must die first in order to activate the code..
remember when the nun kills C.C. after transferring her code to C.C.? remember when charles shot himself after geassed by lelouch then his code appeared?
so my theory is lelouch’s code from charles activates when he was stabbed by suzaku.. of course he won’t have his geass anymore..
this can be done coz nunnaly could see a blink of lelouch’s memories when she touched lelouch’s hand.. it’s the same when lelouch touched C.C. and see her memories..

one more.. so lelouch has charles’ code (inactivated) n C.C.’s contracted geass..
therefore, he has achieved CODE GEASS!! haha..
    related to the title somehow..

but still.. it’s just my theory.. ahahaha..
see gamefaqs forum.. there’s many who have the same theory as mine.. hehe..

  17. Although the director said there will be no 3rd season, maybe we can get a different Code Geass, like Lost Colors or something, in about 5 years or so since the director of FMA said there will be no more sequels to the show but they are releasing a new series that’s coming out in 2009….

  18. @Geass :
Really? There will be no 3rd seson?
    How bad.. T__T

  19. To Tsubaru: when Suzaku tells Lelouch “I will use that Geass” he simply means he will live on, remember Lelouch using Geass on Suzaku, Off course Suzaku doesnt have Geass, this is made clear by the scene Lelouch tells Sheizel to follow Zero (he doesnt say “me, Lelouch”
And whether lelouch is dead or alive, i really have no idea, there are theories that support both outcomes in my opinion, the driver could have been Lelouch, but i dont think so, I’d like to think he’s in the world of C looking over the rest of the world with a smile

  20. it’s one good theory too that lelouch is in the world of C.. haha, i agree to that theory also.. yeah, many theories are given by fans but we” never know until the time whether there will be a 3rd season..

  21. To Mike : WOW !! I was forgot about that. That’s a good theory. But still, I want Lelouch stay alive. When I watched it again last time, I realized something. C.C last words “Right, Lelouch?” I believe she is talking with the driver *look her head movement*.. But.. I can’t bet it. Anyway, C.C was cute on top of that waggon. Hahahha.. XD

  22. If we do see Code Geass again, it’ll likely follow the example of Mai Hime. I doubt that it would continue from where R2 left off. But rather from where S1 had ended, because I got the impression that the first 12 episodes of R2 was pretty much a reintroduction of the Ashford characters, plus the China arc. From episode 13 to 25, it was the biggest rush job that I have ever seen. Everything was so disjointed in comparison to Season one. I believe that the producers are well aware of this. And if they get the chance to do Code Geass again, it would be the “Planned Version” that they had envisioned for R2. So a Mai Hime type setting for Code Geass R2 might very well happen.

  23. Code Geass was wonderful. As with many recent animes, the character had a rather outstanding legacy created by his family. However, unlike the toher animes, it was at the core of the story. I t was no simply there. It was not simply a means to an end. It had purpose. And over time, who Lelouch was had an effect on everyone he came into contact with.

As for the end, I have no doubt Lelouch is dead. Why go so far to do all that happened in the anime’s second season and just have him come back, being alive and well, albiet outside of the public eye? Lelouch wanted this. He wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. No, he’s dead.

In any case, if there is to be another Code Geass series, I’m betting it would be “Knightmare of Nunnally.” It’s CLAMP’s alternate timeline for the geass world’s events, where Nunnally gets the Geass instead. If they DO decide to do this, I can’t help but think of the reactions it would earn.

  24. I watched it about 1 month ago and all this time i thought that Lelouch was dead (but i had some thought about him being alive, after few scenes), i thought so until i read few things here. Now i really dont know what to think. its a very close call. i just watched the last scene and the person with C.C, it looks like he is hiding, look at his face, he has that hat and looks kind of down. To me it means that hes hiding his identity and doesnt want anyone to recognize him. And the cloth hes wearing are pretty good for a farmer if you look at it, you should be able to see it even under that lil coat on his shoulder, but again it could be just my had playing around. when the camera goes up right next to him but not showing his face, it could be hidden message or something in that way. then some one said about the movement she did with her head at the end, it does look like she was talking to the guy in front. maybe they did it in that way or everyone would see the end that want to see. there are many things to support both endings but now i think i will stick with him being alive.
and anyways it was one of if not the greatest anime ever. it does makes you think about something, it makes you feel the way the heroes feel. and the end is great, no it better then that.

  25. Important!!!!!!
    for anyone who reads it…

Lelouch is alive!!! the producers did cut off the end scene, not much, just the few last seconds!!! i just wanted it!! the guy with C.C at the end is Lelouch!! they don’t show his full face but you can see just a bit to recognize him, plus you see his eyes and hair as well.. its 100% him.. so whoever said that he died, sorry but you are wrong!! i’m not playing tricks or anything…
there is this website called vkontakte.ru is something like facebook but you can watch videos as well… thats were i found it…

  26. There is a high chance that Lelouch is alive due to the fact to kill someone with a code one must take the code themselves, then Suzaku told C.C. that she was to be his shield. so there is a chance that Lelouch is immortal. Then C.C. is there following him.
