Well guy the concept of Fatherland come from Latin word "patria" - the land belonged to your father (polish: ojcowizna) and was popularized by Horacio ("dulce et decorum est pro patria mori"). Not only Germans call the homeland as "Fatherland"... Poles by the fact call theys land "Ojczyzna" that mean "Fatherland" but word "Ojczyzna" is in femine form. And my... "where the state took the form of a straight forward superiority relationship" see - Ojczyzna was used in Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth - the very DEMOCRATIC federation amongs the sea of Absolutism and Despotism... so i think that the word Fatherland have nothing to do with "facsist traits of Germans" its just other feeling about Patriarchat or Matriarchat...

>皇帝殿下

Huh?!

殿下 (denka), equivalent to "His/Her Highness," is for princes/princesses and is lower than 陛下 (heika); the latter is translated as "His/Her Majesty."

One of the main factors on if a nation will adopt the form of Motherland or Fatherland, depends of the duty of the state. For instance in the former USSR where the state was a second mother providing food, employment and safety for its "children", the term Motherland was used. In contrast in Germany where the state took the form of a straight forward superiority relationship, the term Fatherland was used.
Quoth the German National Anthem:
    Unity and justice and freedom
    for Germany that is like our father;
    Let us all find these
    as brothers, with heart and hand.
    Unity and justice and freedom
    are the way to happiness.
    |: Do well in this wish,
    Do well, German fatherland. :|
Quoth the USSR Anthem:
        Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
        Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
        O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
        To Communism's triumph lead us on!
